Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA)

The environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) is a planning tool that aims to inform decision makers and the society at large about the most significant impacts of project development and also to assist the engineering design in avoiding or mitigating the predicted impacts.

Environmental Baseline Studies are required for project’s site

The ESIA is part of the permitting process in most jurisdictions.  The execution of the ESIA in compliance with local regulations, and international standards enables, in addition to the permit itself, a smoother process of obtaining finance from Equator Principles Institutions.

ASEGEOCA works to international standards, such as the International Finance Corporation Performance Standards and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Performance Requirements.

Miguel has managed and been part of multiple ESIAs from scoping to statements and public disclosures across a wide range of metals, involving multi-disciplinary teams, working in different countries over a 2-3 years duration. Thus, ASEGEOCA has developed diverse technical capabilities and skills, a good grasp of understanding stakeholder perspectives, clients and diverse teams from different cultural backgrounds.

We believe that the use of Environmental and Social Strategic Pre-scoping of mining projects is a sound investment for a successful permitting process.  The Strategic Pre-scoping covers at least 3 of the 4 key issues, namely water, social and biodiversity and allows an early initial risk assessment that can assist in the generation of a realistic road-mapping of the permitting process.  This study carried out early in the exploration phase can also be used to establish if the deposit has merit.
